Key Insights from NSW Healthcare Funding Inquiry

The New South Wales Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding recently released its comprehensive findings. The report recognises that "it is desirable for the State of NSW to have and fund a universal healthcare system." This guiding principle underscores the need for equitable, accessible services across the state.

Yet the Commission found significant gaps. It notes that "prevention is inadequately prioritised and funded in the NSW public health system." Likewise, timely primary care remains out of reach in many areas, placing further strain on hospitals.

For organisations embarking on digital transformation, these insights highlight two priorities:

  1. Strengthen prevention and primary care – Digital tools can help monitor chronic conditions, deliver telehealth services, and share data across providers to keep people healthier for longer.
  2. Integrate systems across government and healthcare providers – A universal approach requires seamless information flow between hospitals, primary care, and community services. Implementing interoperable platforms and governance models is crucial.

At Geode Solutions, we work closely with healthcare organisations to design and implement strategies that align with these objectives. By addressing systemic funding challenges while leveraging technology, NSW can move toward a truly integrated health system.
